Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how MootMind (“MootMind”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use our website, applications, and services (collectively, the “Services”). It is written to comply with the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”).

1. What we collect

Account information

  • Name and email address (when you create an account)
  • A bcrypt hash of your password (we never store passwords in plaintext)
  • The role you pick on each MootMind tool (Researcher, Speaker, etc.)

Content you provide

  • Moot problems and memorials you upload or paste in
  • Your submissions to the AI Tutor and AI Judge (text + transcribed voice)
  • Search queries you make on Ask MootMind and Smart Search
  • Project workspace data (project name, team members, shared memorials and rounds)
  • Support tickets you submit
  • Feedback you give us on the AI Judge / AI Tutor

Usage and technical information

  • Pages visited, features used, session duration
  • Plan usage counters (memorials generated, tutor sessions, judge rounds, research queries — used to enforce your plan's monthly limits)
  • IP address, browser type, device type, operating system
  • Time stamps for important actions (signup, sign-in, payment)

Payment information

All payments are processed by Razorpay Software Private Limited. We do not store full card numbers, CVVs, or UPI credentials on our servers. We store only the transaction reference, amount, plan purchased, and your subscription status (returned to us by Razorpay) so we can grant you access to the plan you paid for.

Voice input (AI Judge)

When you use voice mode on the AI Judge, your speech is transcribed in your browser using the Web Speech API. The audio itself is not sent to or stored on our servers — only the resulting text transcript is, and only when you choose to submit it to the bench.

2. How we use it

  • To provide the Services — process your moot problem, generate memorials, run tutor sessions, score judge rounds
  • To bill you correctly — track plan usage against your monthly limits, process payments
  • To improve the product — review aggregated, anonymised usage patterns and the feedback you explicitly send us
  • To respond to you — answer support tickets, send service-related emails
  • To keep the Services secure — detect abuse, prevent fraud, debug issues
  • To comply with law — respond to lawful requests from Indian authorities, retain records as required

3. Third parties we share data with

We rely on the following sub-processors to operate the Services:

We share information with these processors only as needed to provide the Services. We do not share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties for marketing purposes.

4. How long we keep your data

  • Account data — for as long as your account is active, plus 90 days after you close it
  • Content you submit (memorials, transcripts) — for as long as your account is active, or until you delete the relevant project / item
  • Payment records — retained for 8 years to comply with the Indian Income Tax Act and GST law
  • Server logs — 30 days, then auto-deleted
  • Support tickets — 2 years after resolution, then anonymised

5. Your rights under the DPDP Act

If you are an Indian resident, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Have inaccurate data corrected
  • Have your data erased (subject to legal retention obligations)
  • Withdraw consent for processing (note: this may mean we can no longer provide the Services to you)
  • Lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India

To exercise any of these rights, email jatinsharma190107@gmail.com from the address associated with your MootMind account. We'll respond within 24 hours and complete the request within 30 days.

6. Security

We protect your data with industry-standard practices: HTTPS for all traffic, bcrypt hashing for passwords, signed HTTP-only session cookies, encrypted database connections, and least-privilege access for our infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure — if you believe your account has been compromised, email jatinsharma190107@gmail.com immediately.

7. Cookies and local storage

We use a single HTTP-only session cookie (mm_session) to keep you signed in, and we store a few non-personal preferences (theme choice, feedback-shown flag, last-generated memorial) in your browser's localStorage. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

8. Children

MootMind is intended for law students aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us their data, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves or as the law changes. When we make material changes, we'll email registered users and post a notice on the site at least 14 days before the new version takes effect. The “Effective” date at the top of this page always reflects the latest version.
